The local community calls it ‘Boren’, a kind of sessile animal that lives in the sea and appears during low tide. These marine creatures cling tightly to rocks and coral reefs, making them accessible for harvesting when the waters recede. Gathering ‘Boren’ has been a long-standing tradition in the coastal villages, providing a valuable source of food and income for generations of families.
Although the population of these sea mushrooms from the genus Stichodactyla is quite abundant in the Tebrau Strait, the rather tedious process of obtaining them means that only a handful of residents seek them out.
