This dataset shows over a century of Malaysia’s climate records from 1901 to 2024, highlighting long-term trends in rainfall and temperature. It includes annual totals and seasonal patterns for precipitation, as well as minimum, average (mean), and maximum temperature values:
- Mean temperature: The long-term average is about 25.4 °C, though in recent decades mean values have risen above this norm.
- Maximum temperature: The hottest daily values often reach 33–35 °C, reflecting heat extremes that affect health and comfort.
- Minimum temperature: Malaysia’s coolest daily values are typically around 21–23 °C, showing how mild the nights and cooler days can be.
In recent decades, rainfall has often exceeded 4,000 mm in some years, while average temperatures have risen above the historical norm, shows a clear warming trend. The dataset is produced by the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia and is provided at a 0.5º x 0.5º spatial resolution (~50 km). These data allow for detailed analysis of Malaysia’s historical climate variability and change and are visualized in MyIKLIM through interactive charts and maps.
This dataset shows how Malaysia’s climate has changed over more than a century, from 1901 to 2024. It includes yearly rainfall totals and seasonal patterns, as well as minimum, average, and maximum temperatures. Over time, Malaysia has seen clear changes in recent decades, some years have had more than 4,000 mm of rain, and average temperatures have risen above the long-term norm of 25.4 °C. These records help us understand how rainfall and temperature are shifting, which is important for planning and preparing for future climate impacts.
