11-15 November 2024 – The Seven Southeast Asian Studies (7-SEAS) Conference, Taipei, Taiwan.

 

MyIKLIM had presented a poster titled “Air Quality Status in UKM (Malaysia) using Aerobox Sensors under the PM2.5@Asia Network” at the 7-SEAS Conference in Taipei, Taiwan, held from 11-15 November 2024. The study highlighted innovative research in indoor air quality monitoring at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), focusing on three strategic campus locations:

 

 

– Earth Observation Center, IPI (Office Lobby)

– UKM Mosque – Prayer Hall

– Kolej Pendeta Za’ba Student Cafeteria

 

 

The research aimed to monitor real-time air quality, identify pollution patterns, and raise awareness of its impact on health and safety. Utilizing Aerobox sensors with plug-and-play technology, continuous data on air quality, temperature, and humidity were collected and analyzed, revealing significant temporal variations that emphasize the importance of sustained monitoring.

 

Once the data is fully ready and completed, the findings will be integrated into MyIKLIM, a one-stop curation portal for climate-related data, enhancing accessibility for researchers, policymakers, and the public. Representing Malaysia at the conference were MyIKLIM, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Talib bin Latif (Faculty of Science and Technology, UKM), Dr. Maggie Ooi Chel Gee (Institute of Climate Change, UKM), and Nur Izzati binti Zaini (UKM-YSD Chair for Sustainability, UKM). This initiative reflects UKM’s commitment to sustainable solutions and its contributions to regional climate and environmental research under the 7-SEAS program. 

 

Additionally, Prof. Dr. Mohd Talib bin Latif delivered an oral presentation on “The Composition of Fine Particulate Matter in Kuala Lumpur Urban Environment” while Dr. Maggie Ooi Chel Gee presented on “Numerical Air Quality Modelling Initiatives in Malaysia“. These contributions highlight Malaysia’s active engagement in advancing air quality research and regional climate studies
